A framework is established for evaluating CPHASE gates that use single-photon cross-phase modulation (XPM) originating from the Kerr nonlinearity. that the control and target pulses propagated at the same group velocity, showed that the causality-induced phase noise required by a noninstantaneous XPM response function precluded the possibility of high-fidelity π-radian conditional phase shifts. The framework presented herein incorporates the more realistic case of group-velocity disparity between the control and target pulses, as employed in existing XPM-based fiber-optical switches. Nevertheless, the causality-induced phase noise identified (2006)] still rules out high-fidelity π-radian conditional phase shifts. This is shown to be so for both a reasonable theoretical model for the XPM response function and for the experimentally measured XPM response function of silica-core fiber.

Large cross-phase modulation between slow copropagating weak pulses in 87Rb.

We propose a scheme to generate double electromagnetically induced transparency and optimal cross-phase modulation for two slow, copropagating pulses with matched group velocities in a single species of atom, namely 87Rb. A single pump laser is employed and a homogeneous magnetic field is utilized to avoid cancellation effects through the nonlinear Zeeman effect. We suggest a feasible preparati...

Phase gate with a four-level inverted-Y system

An all-optical quantum computation has been proposed but a realization of two-qubit quantum gates, which are required for universal quantum computation, is not so straightforward due to lack of significant photon-photon interaction 1 . Many proposals have come up in recent years for efficiently implementing all-optical quantum computation. The linear optics quantum computation scheme is based o...

A Phase Noise Reduction Technique in LC Cross-coupled Oscillators with Adjusting Transistors Operating Regions

In this paper, an intuitive analysis of a phase noise reduction technique is done, and then a modified structure is proposed to achieve higher phase noise reduction than the original one. This method reduces the impact of noise sources on the phase noise by decreasing closed-loop gain in zero-crossings points and moving this high closed-loop gain to the non-zero-crossings points. This reduction...

Continuous-time cross-phase modulation and quantum computation

The weak nonlinear Kerr interaction between single photons and intense laser fields has been recently proposed as a basis for distributed optics-based solutions to few-qubit applications in quantum communication and computation. Here, we analyse the above Kerr interaction by employing a continuous-time multi-mode model for the input/output fields to/from the nonlinear medium. In contrast to pre...
